Our unit would like to honor a volunteer. What would be an appropriate way to do that?
Answer:
Consult the Awards and Recognition section of this website to find several awards that are appropriate for recognizing your volunteers. Not only are they a way to “thank” your honorees, but your unit will also directly benefit a NYS PTA scholarship award or project.
The Honorary Life Membership and the Distinguished Service Award are detailed in their link as are the Golden Oak and Diamond Awards.
A contribution to Founders Day anytime of the year is another great way to recognize someone special and the amount given is at your discretion. (The Founders Day Award is currently found under the Membership section of the website and in your Resource Guide.)
If your budget is limited, you might consider a special PTA pin or article from the PTA Store.
These would all be appropriate expenditures from a PTA budget. The purchase of a “gift” for an individual is not; should you choose to buy a gift for someone the money should come personally from the membership and not from the PTA funds.
