Summer Leadership Conference 2010 Wrap-up:

NYS PTA MEMBERS EXPERIENCE “UNDER THE SEA” AT 2010 SUMMER LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE AT UTICA COLLEGE

New York State’s 23rd Annual Summer Leadership Conference was held this year at Utica College in Utica, New York, from July 30th -August 1st.  The Conference consisted of workshops and leadership training for our members who attended.

A total of 279 members from all over New York State were given the opportunity to brainstorm, network and meet new friends throughout the many workshops that were presented.  There were 48 workshops presented in many different areas of expertise.  This year’s workshops included the Parents As Reading Partners (PARP), Technology, and Cultural Diversity series, along with first time presentations of the new PARP Tool Kit and the Bylaws EZ process.  All of these workshops were geared to help our members and members become better leaders of today and to help mentor our leaders of tomorrow.

This year we had 9 exhibitors in our exhibit area.  We also had a first time sponsor, “Pointless Products, Inc.” of our conference and appreciate the support.  There was a wide array of products from environmental to program related ideas.

The weekend was not only filled with leadership training but also some fun activities.  On Friday evening the members were entertained by and participated in the trivia game “The Brain Show”.   Members were grouped into teams and were challenged on their expertise in trivia.  On Saturday evening members were entertained by high school senior pianist Nick German from New Hartford, New York.  Nick has given solo performances and played with the Utica Symphony Orchestra and plans to study piano performance and percussion education in college.

It was a learning and fun filled weekend for all.  Our members left on Sunday to return home with a wealth of knowledge, many new friends, and more aware of being a better leader and advocate for children.  This will be shared with their members in helping to prepare them to be our leaders of tomorrow.
