Since first gathering in Chautauqua, NY, in 1897,
New York State PTA members have addressed issues that affect the
education, health and safety of children and youth. PTA advocacy efforts
have been enabled through the adoption of thousands of resolutions.
Among these we have established positions supporting physical education
in schools, childhood immunization, good nutrition and healthy school
meals, public libraries, comprehensive health education and prevention
programs, voting rights, juvenile justice, fair housing, educational
equity and teacher quality, inclusive special education, parent
involvement, graduated licensing and media and internet safety.
Our members have spent countless hours reaching out to decision-makers
in order to influence policy, regulation and laws that will ensure
access for all children and youth to education, social and civic
opportunities that will develop a strong and sustainable democratic
citizenry. It is vital that we both continue efforts that have not yet
been realized AND celebrate the success of those that have been
achieved. By maintaining a record of historical resolutions that have
been retired due to relevancy or achievement, we acknowledge a legacy of
New York State PTA advocacy and commitment to children through the
contributions of our founding members, and each and every member to
follow.
